This Privacy Policy explains how EveryWordle ("EveryWordle," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use everywordle.com and its related game services (the "Service"). This policy describes our practices and your privacy choices under United States law. It does not address rights that may apply outside the United States.
Information we collect
Account and profile information
We automatically create a player account so your activity can be attributed consistently. We assign and store a user ID and username, along with timestamps such as when the account was created and last used. If you change your username, we store the new username.
If you choose to sign in with Google, Google provides us with an account identifier and may provide your verified email address. We use this information to connect your EveryWordle account across browser sessions. Google handles your sign-in information under its own Privacy Policy .
Gameplay and public information
We collect your guesses, board activity, wins and losses, timestamps, and related game statistics. Your username and gameplay details may be visible to other players in the live activity feed, presence roster, completed boards, and leaderboards. Recent activity is bounded and resets with the game world, but game results and statistics may remain in our records.
Device, usage, and network information
When you use the Service, we and our providers may process information such as your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, general location derived from your IP address, access times, and interactions with the Service. We use Google Analytics to understand traffic and usage. We do not send your username or email address to Google Analytics.
How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- operate the game, authenticate players, and preserve game progress;
- display live activity, player presence, completed boards, and leaderboards;
- measure, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the Service;
- detect abuse, protect the Service, and enforce our rules; and
- comply with law and protect our rights and the rights of others.
Cookies and browser storage
We use the following technologies:
- Required identity and session cookies keep you signed in or associate your browser with an anonymous player account. These cookies are necessary for the game to function.
- A preference cookie remembers whether you collapsed the game rail for up to one year.
- Session storage remembers your selected board until the browser session ends.
-
Google Analytics cookies, including
_gaand a property-specific_ga_*cookie, distinguish users and sessions. Google says these cookies expire after two years by default. You can block them using your browser settings or the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Blocking required cookies may prevent the Service from working properly. We currently do not respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We disclose information only as described below:
- Other players. Your username and the public gameplay information described above are visible within the Service.
- Service providers. We use Fly.io for application hosting, PlanetScale for database hosting, Cloudflare for network, security, and content-delivery services, and Google for sign-in and analytics. These providers process information to provide their services to us and under their own terms and privacy notices.
- Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, legal process, or governmental requests; protect rights, safety, and security; or investigate fraud or abuse.
- Business transfers. Information may be transferred as part of a merger, financing, acquisition, bankruptcy, or sale of all or part of the Service.
Retention and security
We keep information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the Service, provide historical game results and leaderboards, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and protect the Service. Browser credentials expire after one year of inactivity and no later than five years after they are issued. Retention by our providers is governed by their settings and policies.
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
Your U.S. privacy choices
Depending on your state of residence and subject to applicable exceptions, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information, or to appeal our response to a request. We do not discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
You can limit analytics through browser controls or Google's opt-out tool. You may request help with your information by contacting us as described below. Because usernames and game actions are part of a shared game record, removing or de-identifying them may affect historical boards and leaderboard entries.
Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can review and delete it as appropriate.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy here and revise the effective date. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice when reasonably appropriate.
